THE PUPA
The figure is tightly wrapped in a cocoon of ropes, and the body is emerging from it, compressed and stretched, with a face that is not resisting at all: it seems absorbed, inward-looking, even listening. This is definitely not a torture, but a voluntary endurance, although blood has flushed to the head.
The Pupa is in an impossible state - no longer what it was, not yet what it will become.
It reminds me about certain mystical practices in which physical discomfort becomes a tool for heightened awareness.
This figure is surrendered to a state of extreme limitation in order to reach a level of awareness that ordinary freedom cannot provide.
Hand-sculpted in ceramic, The Pupa stands on a natural sandstone base and is bound with a “diamond” pattern, used in shibari practice. Tapped-on layers of acrylic paint preserve the fingerprints and marks left by sculpting instruments.
This is a unique sculpture. It is signed and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
Width: 19 cm, Depth: 13 cm, Height: 45 cm
